The first magical weapons were probably created in the Hero Age. In this time of wonders, the children of the Spirits had great magical power. This power was used to create mighty castles, strange creatures and weapons and tools of legendary power.
These legendary artefacts may still exist in the Known World. Certainly, many a king has sent adventurers and mercenaries to seek these items of power. There are, however, other types of magical weapons in the world.

Albyan weapons are perhaps the most well known. Although they cost a fortune and even kings and queens may never see an Albyan weapon in their lifetime, almost anyone knows of these weapons. Forged in great secrecy, Albyan weapons are made of the mysterious metal steel. Albyan white steel is immensly strong and holds a fenomenal edge. It is not unknown for these blades to cut straight through a bronze sword. Moreover, Albyan weapons – perhaps due to the way they are forged – are able to hurt even supernatural creatures such as Deamons and the undead.

Such power comes with a price. All Albyan weapons have a name and – so the Forgepriests claim – a personality. Each weapon also holds a Doom. The greatsword Grief, for example, will be the destruction of the one thing the wielder holds most dear. The warhammer Regret will prevent its owner from ever coming to terms with their greatest sorrow. The dagger Mourn will inevitably end up the hands of the person the wielder has wronged most. It is a testament to the power and prestige of these weapons that they are highly sought after despite this.

Sorcerors can create magic weapons in their magical labratories. In doing so, they infuse the weapon with a part of their own magic. It is said that anyone foolish enough to attack a Sorceror with a magical blade should be careful. One never knows wether the weapon was fashioned by thát Sorcerer, in which case it will obey the mage as if it were a part of his own body.

The magical power in the blood of mages has been used in other ways as well. During the late Hyborean reign, ruthless barbarian tribes would kidnap and kill wizards. They then used the mages’ blood in a dark ritual that would channel the magical power from the blood to a weapon. Due to the power of Hyborean blood, this resulted in either powerful magical weapons, a cursed weapon, or even the summoning of a Deamon. Needless to say, this was a very dangerous way to obtain magical weapons.
