134: Reign of Appalonius the Great begins

Appalonius is quickly known as ‘the Mad King’. He experiments on his subjects, turning enemies and friends alike into monsters by dark sorcery. Appalonius styles himself after the Hyborean Kings of Old, holds gladitorial ‘games’ where he pits people against lions and terror birds. Finally, when he orders the city of Kos destroyed because ‘it smells’, people revolt en masse. The Mad Kings’ guard abandons his palace during the night.

142: Appalonius the Mad is caught, strapped to the rack and he is stretched to death. His dying words were “Qualis artifex pereo,” which translates into English as “What an artist dies in me!” The next morning, the body has mysteriously disappeared – wether the mad King truly died is unknown. His disciples are not as lucky – they are bound with heavy chains and thrown into the sea.
